Glowing Cliffs at Bryce

Bryce Canyon is a busy place, but I couldn't resist these incredible glowing towers at the trailhead for Mossy Cave. I found myself putting up with the crowds at the parking lot as I composed the scene and made my sketch. The next day, when I returned to paint it, the weather was dreary and overcast, so the sense of light I infused into the painting was based on my memory of the previous day's glow. This painting won an Honorable Mention at Escalante Plein Air Competition.
